Gallery Lotus Within will host an opening reception on February 15, 2014, 5pm – 8pm, for a month-long exhibition of the work of writer, filmmaker, and editor Lola Creel.

Ms. Creel’s latest film — Journey of Hanuman — was selected and screened in London at the recent Raindance Film Festival. Interviews and more information are available on this web site.

The exhibit, “Love Eternal,” features large-format still images captured from the film, offering a fascinating focus to the film’s subjects: the ancient epic Ramayana, how such sacred literature connects to Indian life and its Tantric traditions and philosophies, and how the world’s cultures universally seek the goal of spiritual self-realization. As incarnations of divine avatars return to earth to restore a sense of love to the world, the powerful verses of Nobel Prize-winning Mexican poet Octavio Paz resound in poignant counterpoint to Valmiki’s original epic text.

Gallery Lotus Within, 1782 Union Street near Octavia Street in San Francisco, specializes in the art and antiques of Nepal, India and Tibet. Their collection includes new and antique jewelry from the Himalayan region, antique Tibetan furniture, hand-painted thangkas of madalas and Buddhist and Hindu deities, antique ritual objects from Tantric processions, and exquisite hand-loomed silk textiles and books.

The opening reception will also include a showing of a few relevant clips from Journey of Hanuman. The film’s primary photographer is the legendary Ron Fricke (Samsara, Baraka, Koyaanisqatsi); the soundtrack features the transcendent contemporary group Kronos Quartet and passionate sitar music by Krishna Bhatt, and the unforgettable poetry narration in the film is performed by the cherished actor Peter Coyote.

We will be providing hors d’oeuvres and drinks for guests; please RSVP to diwash.shakya@lotuswithin gallery or (415) 561-0548 if you’d like to drop by and say hello.
